Vaishali Verma

The Spiny Affection

I remember first seeing you in the woods,

You were sitting against the tree of pine,

Summer evening I could feel the zephyr,

My feet stopped as if it was something Devine,

Since that day my eyes always looked for you,

And i knew your eyes always seeking mine,

After that we talked and talked and talked,

Your voice was so calming, gentle, soft and fine,

You always wanted to embrace me in your arms,

But i resented you every time,

Since childhood people have called me weird,

But you called me YOUR amaranthine,

I was always in the pursuit of love and affection,

My journey ended on that summer evening in the woods of pine,

Now wandering here again I'm thinking of you,

Continuously I'm asking myself why that day our eyes intertwine?

Alas! I couldn't resent myself being embraced,

And lost you for good, though you called me a flower but still I was a porcupine.

Vaishali Verma is a science major but she has always been attracted towards English literature. She has always been hanging back sharing her writings with the world but putting her fear aside she is finally ready to show her mettle.
